~Sensory-enriched environments, varied experiential exposures, developmentally appropriate challenges - all challenge the puppy in different ways resulting in more confident puppies.~
Since my first Samoyed came into my life almost 50 years ago, I have never been without this most wonderful breed of companion and working dog. My mother, Mary Ellen Torrez, established her kennel, Stat-Us-Sams, and was very active in showing and breeding these wonderful dogs in the early 1980's. I was raised surrounded by outstanding examples of competitive show quality Sammies. Although I did very limited show handling of my own dogs early on, my preferred role with her kennel was providing puppy care and socialization.
My own journey as a hobby breeder follows a career in Occupational Therapy. Both endeavors require skill in assessing current performance and offering challenges of increasing difficulty to achieve more distant goals. Time-critical early developmental experiences can profoundly shape and change the puppies for their lifetimes. Sensory-enriched environments, varied experiential exposures, developmentally appropriate challenges - all challenge the puppy in different ways resulting in more confident puppies. We are thrilled with our new home offers an ideal environment in which to raise puppies- varied terrains provide progressive challenge physical challenges as well and problem solving, and even a seasonal creek to grow courage.
As new retirees, we are able to offer our puppies and dogs our time and enjoy the creative challenge of planning great puppy rearing experiences with a goal of creating well-adjusted happy dogs. We offer a complete and balanced, homemade raw food for all of our adult dogs, use protein rotation and supplementation including a raw goat's milk kefir that I make for fresh living probiotics. Excellent nutrition for a lifetime is the gift and promise we give our dogs; We do all we can to raise healthy, happy, long-lived dogs. My wish to produce the kind of dogs that I enjoy- classic Samoyed beauty in graceful balanced movement, happy disposition (a willing worker and goofy playmate), bright expression, and a working coat-- These puppies will be great examples of their versatile breed!
With the desire to learn as much as possible about breeding without reinventing the wheel, I was fortunate to find Avidog almost six years ago and have never left. Bringing the evidence-based science to dog breeding is extremely enjoyable for me and I have found kindred spirits in, not only the program creators, but Avidog Associate breeders worldwide. These are breeders of excellence, those leaving no stone unturned for the benefit of their puppies and their puppy buyers. I believe Avidog offers the soundest, most thorough and updated breeders' education available. I am very proud to be an Avidog Associate and enjoy continuing to learn from the best.
